Blog Journal #10

I would like to use the survey tool when I plan to teach high school history to gauge how effective my teaching is. I would ask questions and make the surveys anonymous so they will not feel shy about saying something. I would also use this to gauge how well the students are doing mentally during the school year, because there are certain parts of the year that are really difficult for students and if my students are having a rough time I may alter my lesson plans to do something a little less mentally draining to give them a break while still providing them with assignments.      One of the topics I found interesting from reading my classmates blogs was their thoughts on the website design assignment. I found Weebly to be on the easier side in some aspects but some of my classmates found it rather difficult to use. I agree that I was not able to utilize Weebly to its full extent, but I was able to use more of it after I read their thoughts on it and I went ...

Distanced learning has been a real challenge over the past year. It did allow me to have more classes closer together because I did not have to worry about getting from one class to the next, as well as it allowed me to take classes from home and not need to pay for housing on campus so I was able to save some money. Distanced learning has made it difficult to get into conversations with my classmates and bounce my ideas off of them when it comes to class discussions. If I had the option to determine my class size, I would try to have a more manageable class size so that my students would be able to engage in discussions, and I would begin class with a small talk question and have everyone answer to start a simple conversation.     Open educational resources, or OER's, are resources that are available to everyone and on different mediums. This means that these sources are public domain and are offered through websites, videos, and online books. Provided is...

While working on the web design assignment, I learned some valuable things and I was able to practice some of the things that were already covered in class. Knowing how to properly attribute images was something I was able to practice while doing this assignment. This assignment gave me a chance to practice operated my own website and I will use this in practice to put information corresponding to my class, such as posting the syllabus, a class schedule, or my PowerPoints.   http://davidjorrin.weebly.com/     I initially had a hard time understanding Diigo, but now that I understand it I see how it is beneficial. I can see this being useful in a class setting for students to share resources pertaining to a group project. I can use this site in my own classes to collaborate with my classmates and I would hope that my students would use it in a similar fashion. Using the sticky notes on a document are very useful for a group to collectively analyze...

After looking through the directory of Deerlake Middle School in Tallahassee, I was able to see that when clicking on the teachers name you are provided with links to different pages. Some of the pages include information on the course that the teacher teaches as well as a page on the teacher, providing information such as an introduction from them and their history at the school, their contact information, as well as their education and the degrees and certifications that the teacher has.      As an educator I will definitely use online mediums to post information in regards to my classes. I would use my teacher page to put an online version of the syllabus, as well as where I could be reached for easy access, even though that information would be in the syllabus. By providing information to reach me such as an email and phone number, I would allow open communication between my students as well the parents of those students.     The wiki we u...

My experience with Diigo was interesting. It was intuitive for the most part, but the parts I had issue with were explained through the videos. I found the tutorial videos to be very helpful. I liked how the Diigo posts allowed you to add tags so you could use those to label your post to make it easier for others to browse through the posts and easier find what they were looking for. I did however find the website a little difficult to look at because of how small the font was and how close together the posts are.     The blogging has been beneficial to allow my consolidate my thoughts on the material being taught and put them in my own words. It is also beneficial because it forces me to critically look at the work we do for this class and understand the meaning for doing them. I do find it difficult sometimes to apply what we have done towards the portfolio items and understand how it can be important, particularly the work done towards the social media ...
