Blog Journal 4

The standard I chose to describe for the grades of 11 and 12 reads "Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively) as well as in words in order to address a question or solve a problem." This standard means being able to utilize and analyze information in different formats to solidify a topic being taught. This can be done by using a PowerPoint to describe a concept, followed by playing a video about that concept, and then ending with an article on the concept. I feel that with my current ability to utilize technology, I can complete this standard given that I have done my research in advance and have previously gathered all necessary materials to teach the lesson.

After looking over the CPALMS site, when it comes to teaching Social Studies at a High School level, I would use the resource on teaching poster propaganda during World War II. This resource provides examples, practice questions, and takes the time to cover all necessary information needed to fully understand the lesson. Some resources build off information that needs to be covered prior to using the resource, where in this case it is not necessary. The practice problems are put in smart places so it acts like a checkpoint to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

It is very important to be an efficient and effective user of the internet when it comes to searching for content to be applied to the classroom because it opens up the range of materials that a teacher can choose from. A teacher who is not as tech-savvy will be limited in what they can find and bring to the classroom, or they will think they found something good, but it came from an unreliable source and will not be useful in class. A teacher who knows how to find and utilize reliable sources will find an endless amount of materials that they can bring to the classroom to teach numerous topics in multiple different ways.
